Midfield duo axed in Pochettino 4-2-3-1: Tottenham best possible XI to face Gent
COMMENT by Amir Mir
Tottenham should ring the changes when they take on Gent in a Europa League match on Thursday night in Belgium.
Mauricio Pochettino should rotate his squad and give a number of fringe players the opportunity to prove themselves mixed with a number of senior players.
Midfield duo Dele Alli and Moussa Dembele should be axed for the European game, along with Kyle Walker, Eric Dier and Hugo Lloris in five changes to the side.
Winger Georges-Kevin Nkoudou and academy product Harry Winks should replace Alli and Dembele in the starting XI.
Furthermore, Pochettino should rotate right-back Walker and bring in Kieran Trippier, who has impressed every time, he has been given an opportunity in the team.
At centre-back, Dier should be replaced by Kevin Wimmer, following the England international’s poor showing against Liverpool at the weekend.
Furthermore, shot-stopper Michel Vorm should also be given an opportunity ahead of the regular Lloris.
Nkoudou would add much-needed pace away from home in the first leg of the Europa round of 32 tie, while Winks should be given the chance to press his claim for a starting spot ahead of the inconsistent Dembele.
They will be tasked to help striker Harry Kane find the back of the net, with senior duo Christian Eriksen and Son Heung-Min the other attacking options.
In defence, after Dier’s poor showing, Wimmer will prove why, he is the best backup defensive option as Pochettino should play him in a back four, a formation, he is more suited to.
Right-back Trippier will provide that freshness on the wing as Spurs can target the right-hand side with N’Kodou and Tripper for the away leg.
