Mills: Celtic’s potential deal for Elyounoussi could be ‘hijacked’ after news emerges
Danny Mills has told Celtic to complete a permanent deal for Mohamed Elyonoussi before another side “hijacks” a potential move.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Leeds United and England defender claimed the Hoops should not argue over Southampton’s price tag and just get the deal “done and dusted”.
Football Insider revealed back in February the forward could be available for just £5million in the summer.
The Premier League outfit were previously demanding between £8million and £10million for the Norway international but were unable to find a buyer.
He instead re-joined Celtic on loan last summer and has scored 17 goals and contributed seven assists in 40 games across all competitions.
“I’d get it [a permanent deal] done before anybody hijacks the deal,” Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.
“Before somebody goes ‘Ooh, that’s not bad.’
“Sometimes you start to faff around over a couple of hundred grand here and there. Yes, in the bigger world it’s a lot of money but just get it done.
“Just go ‘Right, OK, we’re going to pay this. Done.’ Simple as that.
“Sometimes that’s what you have to do. You go ‘We want the player.’ It’s a couple of hundred thousand over what we want to pay but you do it.
“Then it’s done and dusted and you can move on.”
Celtic saw a deal for defender Ben Davies gazumped at the last minute in January when he instead joined Premier League champions Liverpool, as exclusively revealed by this site.
This is the second season Elyounoussi has spent on loan at Parkhead and he has now played over 60 times for the Hoops.
In other news, Alan Hutton has named the two “exceptional” Celtic players who can end Rangers’ double dream.
