Mills: This may be real reason for Bielsa’s intriguing Leeds transfer reveal
Leeds United will likely not make any more signings this summer because they are not willing to pay extortionate wages.
That is the view of ex-Whites and England defender Danny Mills, speaking exclusively to Football Insider as Marcelo Bielsa revealed he does not expect any more additions before the transfer window closes at the end of the month.
As quoted by Leeds Live on 19 August, Bielsa claimed the price for players that will improve his side are “inaccessible”.
The Argentine has only added Junior Firpo and Kristoffer Klaesson to the squad that finished ninth in the Premier League last term.
The Yorkshire giants are once again in the market for midfield reinforcements to provide cover and competition for Kalvin Phillips.
Football Insider revealed on 18 August they have submitted a fresh bid for Huddersfield Town’s Lewis O’Brien.
It is understood the 22-year-old is very keen”on a move to Elland Road.
Asked for his assessment of Bielsa’s comments, Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “I guess it’s market forces and where Leeds think they’re at.
“They might not be willing to pay certain wages or certain fees for players. They’re not going to be held to ransom just because they’re a Premier League club.
“Bielsa has come out and said now he doesn’t expect any more signings in the transfer window.”
Leeds are yet to earn their first win of the new Premier League season.
They followed up their opening day thrashing by Manchester United with a 2-2 draw with Everton as fans returned to Elland Road.
