Mills thrilled by 'important' Son reveal at Tottenham

Nuno Espirito Santo should build his Tottenham side around Heung-min Son, according to Danny Mills.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Leeds United and England defender backed Spurs to challenge for a top-four finish next term.

Football Insider learned yesterday (2 July) Son is set to stay at Tottenham in a huge boost to the new manager.

The South Korea captain is out of contract in 2023 and there was speculation he could follow Harry Kane

He was close to agreeing terms on a mega £200,000-a-week five-year contract in December.

Football Insider exclusively revealed in April that Kane had told friends he was very keen on quitting the club this summer.

Asked whether Nuno can now plan and build around Son instead of Kane, Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “Definitely.

“That’s like a [Diogo] Jota signing, keeping that type of player.

“He’s a good player with a great work ethic and real quality. He leads by example and improves the team across the board.

“It’s really important that he wants to stay. You can build the time around him.

“Now that you can say ‘Ok, Kane’s going, we know that, it’s not an issue.’ But they can rebuild around Son and have a real chance of pushing for the top-six or Champions League places next year.”

Son and Kane formed one of the most dangerous partnerships the Premier League has ever seen last term.

The pair combined for 14 goals beating Alan Shearer and Chris Sutton’s previous record for a single season of 13.

In other news, Tottenham have been tipped to a sign £40million-valued Premier League star ahead of their top-four rivals.
