Milos Kerkez reacts to Premier League announcement ahead of Liverpool transfer

Liverpool could soon have the Premier League’s best left-back in their ranks after Milos Kerkez’s performances were recognised.

Arne Slot‘s side lifted this season’s title at a canter but, Liverpool have already embarked on a mission to upgrade in several positions this summer with both full-back roles set for wholesale changes at Anfield.

Trent Alexander-Arnold’s now confirmed move to Real Madrid has opened up a vacancy at right-back, which has been filled by the signing of Jeremie Frimpong that was announced on Friday.

On the left-hand side, Kostas Tsimikas looks set to follow Alexander-Arnold out of the exit door, while several Liverpool fans are ready to see the back of Andy Robertson after a downturn in form this season.

Liverpool quickly identified Kerkez as their number one target at left-back after his impressive form for Bournemouth across this season, and the Hungarian’s impressive displays have drawn plenty of praise.

The Merseyside giants have yet to make a formal approach to Bournemouth for the £45million-valued defender but they are expected to sign him in the coming weeks as part of an astonishing early-window spree.

Liverpool-bound Kerkez responds to Premier League accolade

Kerkez has reflected on a campaign which has resulted in incredible development for both himself and Bournemouth, after Andoni Iraola’s Cherries recorded a ninth-place finish with a club-record 56 points.

Several Bournemouth players have caught the eye this season and centre-back Dean Huijsen is already on his way to Real Madrid for £50million, but Kerkez has now been recognised by the league itself.

The Premier League posted the 2024–25 fans’ team of the season on their official Instagram page (30 May), with Kerkez at left-back as Bournemouth’s only representative alongside three Liverpool players.

Of the 11 players named, Kerkez was the first to like the Premier League’s post, and also shared it on his story to showcase a level of pride which has been reflected in his performances over the campaign.

Kerkez transfer key as Liverpool launch overhaul

Federico Chiesa was the only new face in a Liverpool squad which Slot led to the title with four games to spare and a 10-point margin, but the Reds have much more than simple tweaks in mind this summer.

Kerkez’s expected £40m move to Anfield is likely to come hot on the heels of Frimpong’s arrival, and Liverpool are also set to break their transfer record in a nine-figure deal for German playmaker Florian Wirtz.

Reinforcements up front are also planned as Slot looks to consolidate Liverpool’s place at the summit, but with their new left-back almost in the building, the Reds couldn’t ask for many better than Kerkez.
