Monk sends heartfelt Twitter message after Leeds draw against Wigan

Leeds manager Garry Monk posted a heartfelt message on Twitter after the final day of the Championship.

The Whites finished the season with a 1-1 away draw to Wigan and Chris Wood scored his 30th goal of the season to celebrate a personal landmark.

The results means that the Yorkshire club finish the season seventh in the Championship with an impressive tally of 75 points, but fell just short of the play-off places.

Monk’s future at Elland remains unclear, but he has revealed that he is holding talks with co-owner Andrea Radrizzani about his future.

The 38-year-olds contract is set to expire at the end of the season, but fans have shown their support for the manager by demanding he is at Elland Road next season.

Monk showed his opinions on social media following the Wigan draw and thanked everyone at the club for their support.

“Season ends with improvements made & foundations laid for the future. We wanted even more, but are satisfied with the job done. Special mention for the players, fans & staff. Immense credit to them for their commitment & support. Hugely appreciated,” Monk wrote on his personal Twitter account.

Monk has managed to beat all pre-season expectations and his side were right in the thick of the play-off race, but a late dip in form saw them drop out of the top-six places.

However, the former Swansea boss has become an extremely popular figure at Elland Road and had the club dreaming of a long-awaited return to the Premier League.
