Graeme Murty makes bold claim about Rangers restoration after draw v Celtic
Rangers manager Graeme Murty has boldly claimed that the 0-0 draw with Celtic is only the “start of a very big job” to restore the Gers back to the top of Scottish football.
The Gers were the better side for long spells in the second Old Firm clash of the season as Murty maintained his unbeaten record against Brendan Rodgers’ side.
The Ibrox side were unlucky not to come away with all three points at the home of their bitter rivals after being denied by several quality saves from Craig Gordon.
Murty admits coming away from Celtic Park with the point feels very different to last March when Murty also led the Gers to a draw at their Old Firm rivals.
“We had opportunities to go and win the game and I’m really proud of how the players stood up to a big challenge at a great stadium. I thought we put on a real good spectacle, the two of us,” Murty told Sky Sports during their live broadcast, as quoted by the Sunday Post.
“We could have won the game. I can’t fault the guys. They gave absolutely everything today. I said last time when we walked out of here (after another draw) it was with a feeling of a job well done. I feel now we’re at the start of a very big job.”
The result leaves the Gers third in the Scottish Premiership going into the three-week winter break but will provide a timely morale boost for the Light Blues after a recent patchy run of form.
Murty is in the dugout until the end of the season after Pedro Caixinha’s sacking in October and has surely done his chances of landing the role on a long-term basis.
Rangers now jet out to the United States for warm weather training and fixtures against Atletico Mineiro and Corinthians in the Florida Cup.
