‘It’s encouraging’ – Graeme Murty details injury update on Rangers senior trio

Interim Rangers manager Graeme Murty has given an update on injured Rangers stars Graham Dorrans, Lee Wallace and Jordan Rossiter as the senior trio continue their recovery.

All three have been out of action since before Murty was handed the reins in the wake of Pedro Caixinha’s sacking in October but Murty revealed captain Lee Wallace is “getting closer” to being able to make his return.

Former England youth international Rossiter has been out injured for almost his entire 18 months at Ibrox since moving from Liverpool while Dorrans suffered an ankle injury during the 1-1 draw with Kilmarnock in October that proved to be Caixinha’s final game and is expected to keep the midfielder out of action of three months.

Murty revealed that Rossiter will step up his recovery after undergoing an injection and admitted having Wallace back will be a big boost.

“We are obviously going to miss Graham [Dorrans] after his operation, while Jordan [Rossiter] has had an injection which will hopefully lead him to go on further than he is currently,” Murty said, as quoted by Rangers’ official website.

“Lee is getting closer, but I think he is going to need minutes. It’s encouraging to see the signs and encouraging to see the speed and the tempo he has been able to play at.

“So having Lee back strengthens us not just in terms of numbers, but also in terms of the kind of character he is. He is the club captain, and having him involved is obviously something we want to get done as soon as he can.”

The Gers face Kilmarnock this weekend in the Scottish Premiership and will be hoping to get back to winning ways after a surprise defeat by St. Johnstone on Saturday.

The result leaves the Ibrox giants third in the table ahead of the looming Old Firm clash with Celtic on December 30th at Celtic Park.
