‘He’s not progressing’ – Murty details worrying injury update on Rangers midfielder

Rangers boss Graeme Murty has given an update on long-term absentee Jordan Rossiter and admitted the former Liverpool midfielder is ‘having a hard time’ with his recovery.

Rossiter has been missing since the opening weeks of the campaign after being absent almost all of last season through a string of mis-diagnosed injuries which baffled both Rangers and the FA’s medical staff.

The 20-year-old arrived at Ibrox with a huge reputation but has been severely limited in his chances to show fans what he can do.

Murty admitted the Gers medical staff are unsure of when there will be any progression in the former England youth internationals recovery and revealed he was struggling both mentally and physically.

“He is going through a hard time,” Murty said, as quoted by The Scotsman.

“Physically and psychologically.

“We are not sure where we are time-wise.

“We were looking at Jordan progressing.

“He’s not progressing as fast as we would like or, I’m sure, he would like.”

Rossiter has only managed just 10 appearances for the Gers since swapping Anfield for Ibrox although remains under contract at Ibrox until 2020.

If the Gers can get the 20-year-old fit it’s clear they have a supremely talented footballer in their ranks but getting – and keeping Rossiter fit – is proving harder than anyone could have anticipated.

Rossiter’s last appearance in blue came as a late substitute away to Ross County in August.

This season, Rossiter had made four appearances for the Gers before his season was wrecked by injury.
