Murty makes bold claim about Rangers scoreline v Motherwell
Rangers manager Graeme Murty has boldly claimed his side could have scored more against Motherwell in Wednesday’s 2-0 win over the Steelmen at Ibrox in the Scottish Premiership.
The Gers needed strikes from Danny Wilson and Alfredo Morelos to break down Stephen Robinson’s side but had a number of chances to grab more goals.
Motherwell keeper Trevor Carson pulled off a number of top saves to keep the score down but couldn’t prevent the Gers from picking up the win.
Murty believes Mexican striker Eduardo Herrera was “unlucky” not to get his name on the scoresheet and thinks his side could have been more clinical.
“I thought that the keeper made some great saves. I think that Eduardo was unlucky not to get one,” Murty said, as quoted by the club’s official website.
“I thought that we had a couple of clear cut opportunities where we could have been a little bit more clinical.
“Centre forwards are like that, they will keep getting into the right areas and hopefully they will go and get another goal.
“I honestly thought that he (Alfredo Morelos) had taken a little too long on the ball to score, but that’s probably why he is a centre forward and I was a full back.”
The result closes the gap at the top of the Scottish Premiership to 11 points ahead of the Gers trip to Celtic Park on Saturday for the second Old Firm of the season.
The Gers will be happy with the three points and a clean sheet after losing their previous two games and looking well off the pace against St. Johnstone and Kilmarnock.
With only one more game left before the winter break, the Ibrox side will be desperate to avoid defeat at Celtic Park and build momentum going into the second-half of the season.
