‘Similar to a golf pro’ – Murty makes strange claim about Rangers midfielder
Rangers manager Graeme Murty has revealed there is something “different” about the way midfielder Jordan Rossiter strikes a ball and admitted it makes a “wonderful sound.”
The 20-year-old has been out of action since the end of August after missing the bulk of last season with a string of back, calf and hamstring injuries that saw the former Liverpool youngster seek specialist treatment at the FA’s St. George’s Park facility in Shropshire.
Rossiter came to Ibrox with an undoubted pedigree after progressing through Liverpool’s system and captaining England at various youth levels.
Murty also strangely claimed that his passing is similar to a golfer hitting the sweet spot with a drive and admitted it’s something he wants the midfielder to keep in his mind as he continues his recovery.
“He played for us at Nuneaton in pre-season with my Under-20 team, and I had a couple of training sessions with him,” Murty said as quoted by the Sunday Post.
“When you see him up close, the sound he makes when passing the ball, just from a simple sidefoot, is different. There’s just a resonance to it that’s great.
“It’s similar to a golf pro hitting a shot. It makes that wonderful sound.
“It sounds totally different when we amateurs clang it down the fairway, and slap it a wee bit.
“I want him to have that in the forefront of his mind. That feeling of that’s what I want.”
Rossiter has only managed 10 appearances for the Gers since moving north in 2016 but Rangers hope the can nurse him through his injury problems and get the player back playing regular first-team football again.
The 20-year-old defensive midfielder would be an ideal player in the Gers’ 4-1-2-1-2 formation that has been a regular feature under Graeme Murty.
The Liverpudlian’s last appearance of four he has made this season was as a late substitute in the away win over Ross County.
Rossiter’s Ibrox contract ends in May 2020.
