‘Frank exchanges of views’ – Murty reveals heated Rangers dressing room at half-time v Celtic

Rangers manager Graeme Murty has revealed what was said in a heated Rangers dressing-room at half-time of their 0-0 draw with Celtic on Saturday – and admitted there was a “frank exchanges of views.”

The Gers went in at half-time after being put under the cosh for spells by Brendan Rodgers’ side before coming out and dominating much of the second-half.

The Light Blues will ultimately be disappointed to have only come away from Celtic Park with only a point after having a number of chances to break the deadlock.

Murty revealed he left his players to it and was rewarded with a much improved display in the second-half.

“It was great at half-time because there were some frank exchanges of views among the players to try to improve and that energy took them out to the second half, ” said Murty, as quoted by the Evening Times.

“I left them to it and then you control it and get it back in and get them focused. It was just solving problems.

“In the heat of the moment, you are in the changing room and your hormones are charging around and your energy is high. It gets a bit fraught and frantic.

“Let that release off, let the guys get it out and then give them a really good solution, and that’s what we did.”

Murty has now faced Celtic twice away from home and has come away with a draw each time as he maintained his unbeaten record against the Scottish champions.

The result leaves the Gers in third place in the Scottish Premiership – 11 points behind leaders Celtic – but will give Murty’s side a much needed morale boost as they go into the three-week winter break.

During the Scottish Premiership’s winter shutdown, the Gers will travel to America for warm weather training before facing Atletico Mineiro and Corinthians in the Florida Cup.

Rangers will now hope to build on the result and close the gap to the leaders in the second-half of the Scottish Premiership season.
