Murty delivers verdict on controversial incident in Rangers midweek win
Rangers manager Graeme Murty has said he doesn’t think there was any intent in the challenge which left Ryan Jack needing to be stretchered off in the 2-0 win over Motherwell.
In a moment of controversy, Well’s Cedric Kipre raked his studs down Jack’s leg before stamping on his knee leaving the Ibrox ace requiring lengthy treatment on the pitch before he could be carried off.
Murty’s side won after second-half goals from Danny Wilson and Alfredo Morelos secured their first victory in three games.
The Gers are waiting for swelling to go down on Jack’s knee before fully assessing the injury but Murty revealed that he doesn’t think the Motherwell defender meant to harm Jack.
“I did not think Kipre stamped and pushed down,” Murty said, as quoted by STV.
“He didn’t put any pressure through the challenge, there was a coming together that was a nasty one but, regarding intent, I’m not sure there was any there.”
Kipre was booked a few minutes after play re-started following the long stoppage for Jack’s injury when he kicked Eduardo Herrera and left the Mexican striker with a bloody nose.
Jack was replaced by youngster Jamie Barjonas in the centre of midfield and the 18-year-old put in an impressive performance alongside Jason Holt and Ross McCrorie.
If Jack fails to make the Old Firm game, Barjonas could be in line to make his first appearance against Celtic at senior level.
