Newcastle could sell Harvey Barnes in shock move – Transfer expert
Newcastle United could sell Harvey Barnes in a shock move after his impressive run of form to raise money for reinvestment into their squad.
This is according to well-connected transfer expert Mick Brown, who previously worked as a senior scout for Man United, Aston Villa and more as he exclusively told Football Insider that a number of clubs are monitoring the 24-year-old’s situation.
This comes following news that Anthony Gordon has committed to a new six-year deal at St James’ Park as he and Barnes compete for a starting role.
Gordon has played as a striker in recent weeks in the absence of Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson, with Barnes on the left, but the former Everton star expected to reclaim his usual position when the strikers return.
Eddie Howe has previously struggled to start both wingers given their preference to play on the left, and as a result, the club could now look to cash in.
Given their financial struggles in the summer transfer window which would have seen them breach profit and sustainability rules if not for last-minute sales, the club are looking for ways to raise money without selling any of their star names.
Meanwhile, Brown previously told Football Insider that they could push for a deal to sign Leroy Sane – and he has now explained he is viewed as a possible replacement for Barnes.

The sales of Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson helped the Magpies avoid financial breaches in the summer, and they are determined to avoid a similar situation this season.
Brown, who remains well-connected within the game and has worked with numerous clubs and players at the top level, insisted Barnes could be the casualty of their efforts to remain within the rules, with his recent form boosting his price tag.
“They’ve got Barnes who they could cash in on,” he told Football Insider.
“It’s an interesting one because they’ve had their issues with PSR and in terms of buying anybody, so they need to sell somebody.
“Well, the main people they can sell are their star players, and they don’t want to do that.
“Barnes seems to have an impact when he plays, but then he’ll be benched or taken off.
“I’ve heard there a plenty of people keeping an eye on his situation after the way he’s started the season and I wouldn’t be surprised if somebody makes a move.
“They’ll look at it and think they could raise some money from his sale if someone comes in.

“Then, they’re looking at getting Leroy Sane on a free, so to get money for Barnes and then get Sane as his replacement is certainly a possibility.“
