Newcastle United fans love what Sean Longstaff did to Ben Brereton Diaz in the win v Southampton after a new video emerged on social media.

Eddie Howe’s side ran out 1-0 winners from an ill-tempered affair at St James’ Park which was marred by the controversy surrounding Fabian Schar’s red card.

Fans were left raging by the dismissal after the defender appeared to headbutt Brereton Diaz after a foul by the Chilean.

Following the sending-off, a series of heavy challenges and fouls took place, with a focus on the Southampton forward in retaliation for his exaggerated reaction to Schar’s touch.

Both the crowd and the players at St James’ appeared to target Brereton Diaz, and a clip of a strong tackle from Longstaff quickly did the rounds on social media.

Longstaff was described as “heroic” and “massive” as fans celebrated his tackle.
