Newcastle fans react on Twitter as Brighton drop valuable points
By Amir Mir
Brighton rescued a dramatic 3-3 draw against Brentford on Sunday afternoon – and Newcastle fans on Twitter were pleased that they are still top of the Championship.
Chris Hughton’s side dropped valuable points on the road against Dean Smith’s men but produced a magnificent second half performance.
Playmaker Jota and Harlee Dean had given the home side a 2-0 lead inside the first 22 minutes at Griffin Park.
Lasse Vibe could have sealed all three points in the second half but his spot kick was saved by David Stockdale.
That changed the tide of the game with Solly March and Shaun Duffy levelling the scores within the space of three minutes.
Brentford thought they had sealed a dramatic three points when Konstantin Kerschbaumer’s scored in stoppage time, but Tomer Hemed’s header in the 97th minute sealed a point for Hughton’s men.
Despite the late comeback, Brighton still remain in second, with Newcastle maintaining top spot.
Understandably, the Toon Army faithful were grateful that they kept hold of first place but praised the fightback of the Seagulls.
Fans were even more pleased because Rafa Benitez side picked up a 1-0 win against promotion rivals Derby on Saturday.
Now, they are one point ahead of Brighton in the table, with the duo set to meet on February 28 as fans described that encounter as very important.
