Newcastle fans rip into Diame on Twitter after he calls time on Senegal career
By Harvey Byrne
Newcastle fans on Twitter have taken the opportunity to rip into attacker Mohamed Diame after he announced his international retirement on Monday.
The 29-year-old Senegalese midfielder called time on his international career, stating there are now 23 players in his national side’s set-up better than he is.
This came as a slight surprise with Diame still playing regularly in the Magpies first team as Rafa Benitez’ team aim for an instant return to the Premier League.
However, Newcastle fans on social media have called for the attacking midfielder to go one step further and retire from club football altogether.
A number of Toon fans have been critical of his displays this season and one fan expressed that Diame was playing hide and seek in the 3-1 defeat against Fulham on Saturday.
Meanwhile, others shared their hopes that the player won’t be involved with the Newcastle team next season.
Here are a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Diame joined Newcastle in the summer from Premier League outfit Hull after helping the Tigers win promotion in the last campaign.
He has made a total of 33 appearances for the north east giants in total since joining, bringing a return of six goals and two assists as the Magpies sit atop the Championship table.
In other Newcastle news, this Toon 25-year-old has been demoted to the reserves.
