Newcastle fans urge Benitez to start 25-year-old attacker against Aston Villa

By Harvey Byrne

Newcastle fans on Twitter have called on Rafa Benitez to start attacker Christian Atsu in Monday evening’s Championship clash with Aston Villa.

The 25-year-old wide player has not started for the Magpies in the league since a 3-1 win against Nottingham Forest at the end of December.

He has since played just 70 minutes in the Championship through substitute appearances due to playing in the African Cup of Nations with Ghana in January.

But, Toon fans are now urging Benitez to start the tricky winger and it is assumed that many want him to replace Yoan Gouffran on the left-wing.

Here are a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Atsu has featured in 21 matches for Newcastle in all competitions this season after joining on a season-long loan deal from Chelsea in the summer.

He has returned with just three goals, but he has showed his versatility as being able to play on both wings across the campaign.

The speedster will also be eager to fight his way back into the Toon squad and he will be looking to help the current second placed side win an instant return to the Premier League with 15 matches of the season left.
