Newcastle handed ‘huge boost’ v Arsenal after ‘big’ news
Newcastle United have been handed a “huge boost” with Eddie Howe set to be in the dugout against Arsenal on Saturday, according to Noel Whelan.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 43-year-old’s presence would make a big difference for the players.
Newcastle confirmed on Friday (26th November) Howe would be in the dugout after returning a negative Covid test.
The new Magpies boss was forced to watch the 3-3 draw with Brentford from a hotel room after testing positive during the week.
Whelan suggested Newcastle may have beaten the Bees had Howe been present and insisted his return would be a big shot in the arm for the players.
“It’s a huge boost,” Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.
“I think if he was there last week in the dugout, Newcastle probably might have won the game. But, saying that, they came away with a draw.
“They showed great character and I’m sure that would have pleased Eddie Howe. You’ve got to have your manager in the dugout to get the information across, to be there and present.
“It does make a big difference, a huge difference, to the players while they’re out there on the field. They’re going to need him in the dugout against Arsenal.
“Eddie Howe will be waiting and longing for that first victory with Newcastle. To see the players and get his instructions across while they’re out there.”

Jason Tindall was in the St James’ Park dugout last week.
Howe’s assistant has also taken the two pre-match press conferences.
In other news, pundit claims some Newcastle United stars “annoyed” at Howe’s training ground change.
