Newcastle are keen on signing Hellas Verona midfielder Rômulo, according to a reliable journalist.
La Gazzetta dello Sport reporter, Nicolò Schira has claimed on his personal Twitter account that the newly-promoted side are “really interested” in the 30-year-old.
It is said talks are ongoing, with Rômulo, who played a big part in Hellas Verona securing their return to Italy’s top-flight last term.
Rafa Benitez recently helped the Magpies earn their own promotion from the English Championship when they won the title on the last day of the season.
Ahead of the forthcoming Premier League campaign, they are yet to add new faces to their squad, but the transfer window doesn’t officially open until July 1.
During his career, versatile midfielder Rômulo, who can play in front of the defence, out wide and in behind the striker, has represented the likes of Juventus and Fiorentina.
Last season, he played 41 matches in all competitions for his side, scoring four goals and supplying ten assists for his teammates.
He was utilised in eight different positions throughout the season, from playing as a left-winger, right-back, attacking midfielder and defensive midfielder.
There is no doubt that Benitez will add new faces to his squad ahead of the new season, with the Magpies set to encounter a tough campaign.
Brazilian-born Rômulo, who has never played outside of Italy during his career, has two years left to run on his current deal.
