Manager comments prove this Newcastle enforcer has what it takes to keep club in PL

Newcastle United need more players like Paul Dummett after the full-back turned his back on an international call-up for Welsh side in a bid to concentrate on matters at St James’ Park.

According to Wales manager Ryan Giggs, as quoted by the Newcastle Chronicle chief writer Lee Ryder on Twitter, the former Manchester United winger said: “I had a conversation with Paul Dummett because he hasn’t been in the last few squads and he just felt that it wasn’t the right time to come back.

“He wanted to concentrate on his Newcastle career which I have to respect, and we move on.”

And it’s this kind of attitude that will keep the Magpies in the Premier League this season.

Rafa Benitez’ men need to show their commitment to the cause and give their all in what promises to be a tight and tentative end to the season.

As it stands, last weekend’s 3-0 win against Southampton gave the club breathing space and a five-point gap between themselves and the sides in the bottom three.

However, they’re only one defeat away from being drawn back into the danger zone.

It’s the likes of Jonjo Shelvey, Jamaal Lascelles, Kenedy, and Dummett who have hauled the club from the pit of doom and to the brink of survival, and the Magpies need more players with that level of desire.
