Newcastle player ratings v Wolves: Senior duo are a liability

By Amir Mir

Football Insider rates the Newcastle players out of ten following their 1-0 win over Wolves on Saturday evening.

Karl Darlow 6 – Not really tested by Paul Lambert’s side who had their first shot on target after the 80th minute.

DeAndre Yedlin 7 – The right-back is like a road runner on that right wing with his electric pace causing all sorts of problems.

Jamaal Lascelles 7 – Much better performance from the senior man who dealt with any danger provided by the home team.

Ciaran Clark 7 – Just like his centre-back partner the duo had a very good game and will be looking to continue this form into the next game.

Paul Dummett 4 – In truth, the left-back shouldn’t be anywhere near the team as he is one of two players who is a liability in this squad. The senior man makes silly mistakes and gives away stupid fouls.

Matt Ritchie 6 – The Scotsman didn’t produce the typical attacking performance the Magpies fans expect of him, but the Wolves backline should be credited for that.

Jack Colback 4 – Just like Dummett, the senior player is not good enough for this team, nor will he be good enough when Newcastle go. Another liability.

Jonjo Shelvey 7 – It was from his free-kick that Mitrovic found the back of the net. Wolves looked all over the place as his pin point delivery caused havoc in the home side’s penalty area.

Yoan Gouffran 5 – Poor game from the Frenchman who at times looked like a headless chicken. Needs to work on his positioning and having more of an impact in the final third.

Mo Diame 6 – The midfielder produced a mixed bag against the Midlands side. At times his powerful runs caused problems, but then his decision making lets him down.

Aleksandar Mitrovic 6 – Did very well to score his goal but in truth, he should have been sent off before that.

SUBS:

Christian Atsu 5 – (for Mitrovic, 45mins)

Daryl Murphy 5 (for Ritchie, 82mins)

Ayoze Perez N/A (for Diame, 88mins)

In other Newcastle news, talks underway as the club make the first move to secure these two midfield deals.
