Newcastle player ratings v QPR: Senior duo are 3/10
By Amir Mir
Football Insider rates the Newcastle players out of ten following their 2-2 draw against QPR at St James’ Park on Wednesday night.
Karl Darlow 6 – The shot-stopper couldn’t do much about both goals but he did save Paul Dummett’s blushes by pulling off a great save following the left back’s mistake.
DeAndre Yedlin 5 – Should have been more strong in defence and couldn’t provide the threat with his pace when attacking. But, he did produce some dangerous crosses.
Jamaal Lascelles 3 – At some point, the entire Newcastle backline lost possession, but the club’s senior man was the biggest culprit. Too relaxed on the ball and not strong enough in defence.
Ciaran Clark 3 – Just like Lascelles the senior player had a poor game, in particular, his costly own goal late on. You have to question the communication and the decision-making of Clark. Seriously poor and sloppy defending.
Paul Dummett 4 – Poor display from the left-back, who does provide enough in the attacking third and is too weak in defence.
Matt Ritchie 7 – Tried his socks off in attack, whether it was an attempted long range shot or cross, he tried to make something happen. Scored a magnificent header that Alan Shearer would be proud of.
Jonjo Shelvey 7 – The only Newcastle player that fills the supporters with confidence. QPR were all over for him in the first half, trying to stop him from playing, but throughout the game, he still managed to produce pockets of brilliance. He took his goal very well in the first minute.
Isaac Hayden 6 – The young midfielder produced a simple display for the majority of the game, but produce a brilliant cross which was headed in by Ritchie.
Yoan Gouffran 4 – Another player who had a quiet game and failed to make an impact.
Ayoze Perez 4 – For a player expected to produce the goods at the start of the season, the Spaniard is not living up to the billing. He couldn’t get into the game, nor did he make an impact.
Daryl Murphy 5 – Tried his best up top but didn’t really have the pace to threaten the QPR defensive line. Need to play more to his strengths or the presence of a Dwight Gayle would bring more out of him.
