COMMENT By Harvey Byrne
Football Insider rates the Newcastle players in their 1-0 Championship defeat against Sheffield Wednesday on Monday night.
Karl Darlow 7 – Made some vital stops, but was unfortunate to end the match without a clean sheet.
Vurnon Anita 5 – Had some shaky moments in the back four and looked like the weak link in the defence against Fernando Forestieri.
Ciaran Clark 6 – The defender looked good at the back, but he did miss a couple of good opportunities at the other end of the pitch from corners.
Jamaal Lascelles 6 – Done a good job at the back against the experienced Steven Fletcher.
Paul Dummett 4 – The 25-year-old was too static at the back for the Sheffield Wednesday goal after Darlow made a good stop.
Isaac Hayden 7 – Battled well in midfield, but more creativity was needed from the former Arsenal man.
Jack Colback 5 – Failed to contribute anything of note in the team and only highlighted that Jonjo Shelvey was missing.
Matt Ritchie 7 – His set-pieces caused problems to the opposition and Clark was unfortunate not to profit from a couple.
Yoan Gouffran 5 – The French winger came in for attacker Christian Atsu for the match, but was fairly anonymous.
Mohamed Diame 5 – The Senegalese attacking midfielder started brightly, but failed to create anything notable over the 90 minutes.
Dwight Gayle 7 – Hit the woodwork early on after Keiran Westwood made a great save and was unfortunate to finish without a goal.
SUBS:
Christian Atsu (For Gouffran 63 minutes) – 6
Ayoze Perez (For Diame 69 minutes) – 6
Aleksandar Mitrovic (For Colback 80 minutes) – 6
