Newcastle in talks over January deal for PL dazzler – confirmed

Newcastle United boss Rafa Benitez has confirmed that the club are in talks with Chelsea over a January loan deal for Brazilian left-sided flyer Kenedy.

The Magpies have been heavily linked with a move for the 21-year-old in recent days, and Benitez admitted that talks were ongoing about a temporary deal for the young star.

The Spaniard also confirmed that the Magpies had shown interest in a deal for Kenedy in the past, having been linked with a similar move for him in the summer, which is said to have broke down at the last minute.

As quoted by the Chronicle, Benitez said: “Kenedy was one of the names in the past and we were interested. We will see if we can do something now. It’s not a done deal though.

“We are trying to bring in what we need and he is a player that has energy and because of his age that could be fine for us. But it’s still not done, it’s a conversation at the moment.”

Kenedy has been out-of-favour at the Blues this season, playing back-up to first-choice left-back Marcos Alonso, and has made just three EFL Cup appearances all term.

The Brazilian flyer, who can play at left-back or on the wing, was a £6million signing from Fluminese in 2015, but has only managed 25 appearances in all competitions since joining the Blues.

If Kenedy does sign for the Magpies, he would be the first of what looks to be a few January signings, with Benitez also set for a big clear out.

As previously reported by the Chronicle, Benitez is said to be willing to listen to offers for as many as five senior players in January.
