Newcastle tipped to emulate Man City after ‘phenomenal’ £540m confirmed news – pundit

Kevin Campbell has tipped Newcastle to follow in the footsteps of Man City and gain an “added advantage” through “lucrative” sponsorship deals in the Middle East.

The former Arsenal striker was speaking exclusively to Football Insider after the Citizens topped the 2022 Deloitte Football Money League.

The annual survey, published on 20 March, revealed that Man City’s £540million turnover for 2020-21 was the highest in Europe – while Newcastle failed to appear in the top 20 clubs.

The commercial income at City soared to £271.7m as the Covid-19 pandemic eliminated matchday income.

Football Insider finance guru Dr Dan Plumley claimed (22 March) the rise is due to the “phenomenal” commercial growth at the Etihad Stadium.

Campbell suggested Newcastle will be the next club to take advantage, following their Saudi-backed takeover last year (2021).

“We’re talking about the Middle East, the UAE – which is a very wealthy part of the world,” he told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs.

“If they like you and they take you into their heart, they will look to plough the money in through these sponsorships – and that can be very lucrative.

“That’s what Man City have done, that’s how it’s worked out. We know that their owner is one of the richest around.

“Sponsorship plays a massive part in these figures. We’ve seen it happen at Paris Saint-Germain; we’ve known it’s been happening at City for years now.

“I’m sure you’re going to start seeing it at Newcastle.

“When you look at the Financial Fair Play side of things, it gives these clubs an added advantage over the rest because these deals are so lucrative.”
