Newcastle transfer news: ‘Mental’ summer predicted after ‘absolutely amazing’ January – Kenny
Newcastle United will have a “mental” summer transfer window if they avoid relegation this season.
That’s according to former Leeds United stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after the Magpies signed five new players in January.
Kieran Trippier, Chris Wood, Bruno Guimaraes, Matt Targett and Dan Burn were all brought to St James’ Park as Newcastle look to avoid relegation.
Trippier left current La Liga champions Atletico Madrid while Guimaraes left Lyon to join 18th-placed Newcastle.
Kenny has been blown away by the Magpies’ business and predicted a summer of spending if the club stay up.
“Newcastle did unbelievably well to get so many players in,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“They needed to replace the defence and they have signed a right-back, a left-back and a centre-back.
“They have also gone and signed Guimaraes, who is a Brazil international.
“That’s absolutely amazing. The big thing for Newcastle is they are in the bottom three and they got these deals done.
“Their summer is going to be mental. If they stay up, imagine who they will be able to attract.
“It’s all on staying up now. If they do that then they can really push on next season.
“I’ve been so impressed with how they handled January and if they stay up Newcastle are probably one of the most exciting clubs in the world to join.”

Newcastle are next in action against Everton on Tuesday (8 February).
The Magpies will move out of the relegation zone with a win.
