‘Newcastle turn attention to Tyler Dibling deal after Tottenham twist’

Newcastle United have set their sights on a deal to sign Southampton star Tyler Dibling to strengthen on the right-hand side.

That is according to former Man United and Sunderland chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that Eddie Howe believes the 19-year-old would be a strong addition to his team.

However, any deal will depend on whether the Saints are prepared to negotiate on their asking price for the winger following their relegation to the Championship.

This comes after Football Insider revealed on 30 May that Tottenham have had second thoughts about signing Dibling due to his lofty £55million price tag.

The Magpies are considering him among a number of targets to bolster on the right wing, and could be forced to consider alternatives as a result.

Brown told Football Insider on 1 June that Dibling is unlikely to leave Southampton while his price tag remains high, but clubs are keeping a close eye on the situation.

Newcastle United join race to sign Southampton’s Tyler Dibling

Brown told Football Insider as early as October that “major” Premier League clubs are tracking Dibling’s performances, with scouts spotted at St Mary’s.

The former scout, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, has insisted that Newcastle are among the clubs eyeing up a potential deal.

Tyler Dibling is a promising young player,” he told Football Insider.

“Personally, I’m not quite convinced he’s got enough about him at the moment to start for Newcastle every week and immediately improve the team.

“He’s got a good first touch, good control, can dribble and can pass it.

“But he hasn’t got that game-changing pace a lot of clubs are looking for in their wingers.

“That, from what I hear, is why clubs are debating whether to pay this massive asking price Southampton have put on him.

“Newcastle are one of those clubs who are interested, and I hear Eddie Howe is a big fan of his.

“If Southampton were willing to negotiate that price, I could see them making a move for him.

“But if they’re looking at upwards of around £50million, they can forget it, because there are other wingers Newcastle have looked at as well.

“I don’t doubt somebody will be willing to take a chance on him, but if you’re paying that sort of money, you want a player who can improve the team now.

“Tyler Dibling probably isn’t that player for a lot of the top Premier League clubs.”

Celtic make Nicolas Kuhn decision after ‘£20m’ reveal

Alongside their interest in Dibling, another winger Newcastle have been keeping an eye on over the course of the season is Celtic’s Nicolas Kuhn.

Brown told Football Insider on 24 June that Celtic are keen to keep Kuhn at Parkhead despite the interest from Newcastle alongside German outfit RB Leipzig.

However, offers in excess of £20million are likely to force the club’s hand and they may be powerless to keep hold of the German despite their reluctance to sell.

This comes after Football Insider revealed Celtic will demand £15-20million for Kuhn and are in a strong negotiating position as his contract is set to run until 2029.
