Newcastle United about to sign ‘one hell of a player’ after ‘superb’ Nick Pope reveal – pundit
Newcastle United are signing “one hell of a goalkeeper” with Nick Pope set to join the club.
That’s according to former Aston Villa and Scotland boss Alex McLeish, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Burnley stopper’s move to St James’ Park.
On Tuesday (21 June), a Newcastle source told Football Insider that Pope, 30, has been given permission to head to the club and complete the formalities of the transfer.

On Thursday (23 June) Keith Downie reported the Magpies will sign the stopper for a fee in the region of £10million.
McLeish insists Eddie Howe’s side are signing Pope at an “absolute bargain” price.
“In current prices, it’s a great bit of business,” McLeish told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild
“Goalkeepers can go on much longer than anyone else. 30 is actually quite young if you compare him to Allan McGregor.
“He’s 10 years older than him. That is a superb piece of business. Pope has been excellent for Burnley.
“Unfortunately sometimes one guy can’t keep a side up by making saves every week when there are no goals at the other end.
“Pope is one hell of a good goalkeeper, absolute bargain. He’s played for England and at the top level.
“He knows what is going on at Newcastle, the revolution.”

Pope made 36 appearances for Burnley as they were relegated to the Championship following a poor 2021-22 season.
He has been a Turf Moor since 2016.
In other news, a finance guru has cited a “£400million” Middle East agreement as Newcastle United eye a “landmark” deal.
