Newcastle United backed to complete Marcus Thuram deal after source’s latest – ‘he wants to join’, says pundit
Newcastle United could “easily” beat off their rivals to sign Marcus Thuram in January.
That’s according to former West Ham hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Magpies’ attacking options.
On Tuesday (22 November), sources told Football Insider that Newcastle United are willing to pay £10million to sign Borussia Monchengladbach star Thuram in January.
Thuram, 25, is free to talk to clubs outside Germany from January and could sign a pre-contract with an English club ahead of joining on a free.
The France international is part of the squad for this month’s World Cup after netting 13 goals in 17 appearances for the Bundesliga side this season.
McAvennie claims Thuram will want to join Eddie Howe’s free-scoring side.
“Newcastle could get that one done easily,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“£10million used to be a big deal for them but now it is next to nothing. This guy has an unbelievable record in the Bundesliga .
“So you think about putting him in a team like Newcastle who are scoring goals for fun, it must be quite an exciting thing for a player.
“But, I have said before, Newcastle is the club everyone wants to join at the moment, it’s the place to be. We know the injury problems with their attackers too.

“Wilson is always injured, Isak has barely played this season, same with Saint-Maximin.
“So it would make a lot of sense for them to go and sign this guy.”
In other news, one pundit claims Bruno Guimaraes’ head may have been turned after Newcastle United source’s club-record reveal.
