Newcastle United backed to land Harvey Barnes after source’s cash reveal – pundit
Alan Hutton has backed Newcastle United to sign Harvey Barnes this summer.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa defender said Barnes is exactly the kind of player Newcastle want to have moving forward.
The 25-year-old’s current contract at Leicester City runs until 2025 after he signed an extension in 2021.
Last week (11 April), sources told this site that the Magpies are among the Premier League clubs ready to pounce for Barnes this summer.
But Football Insider revealed on Thursday (13 April) that it could cost £50million to land the winger as the Foxes prepare to demand top dollar for their star, even with the threat of relegation.
When asked if Barnes is the kind of player that will fit in to Eddie Howe’s side moving forward, Hutton told Football Insider: “I would say so.
“Harvey Barnes is an excellent player, he has got that raw pace, he can score goals, he can assist.
“He had a little dip in form but you see him coming back. He is a live wire and I think that is what Newcastle like, these players that can get the fans off their seats.

“The likes of [Miguel] Almiron, Callum Wilson, [Alexander] Isak, they are all intelligent players that want to run forward and he does that.
“The disappointing thing for Leicester is that they will lose players [Youri] Tielemans, [James] Maddison, Barnes, if they go down. But I am sure they will think they can still stay in the league.“
