Newcastle United could be beaten to Leandro Trossard signing after giants update – pundit

Alan Hutton has suggested Newcastle United could be beaten to signing Leandro Trossard by Chelsea.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa defender said Trossard is likely to choose the Stamford Bridge club to link back up with his former boss.

According to the Northern Echo (31 October), the Magpies are exploring the possibility of signing the 27-year-old in January.

The Belgium international’s current contract at the AMEX expires in 2024.

Brighton are said to value the winger at £30million.

Chelsea have also been linked with a January move for Trossard, along with London club Arsenal but Newcastle are said to be preparing to lodge an initial inquiry before the end of the year.

According to journalist Sacha Tavolieri (29 October), his impressive performance against Graham Potter’s side on 29 October could play a part in his side ramping up their attempts to sign the attacker.

When asked who would have the edge in January, Hutton told Football Insider:I would lean towards Chelsea because of Graham Potter.

He knows the player well, you have got that link. So, the opportunity to go to a top club, where your previous manager is who knows you, knows how to get the best out of you.

I think he would maybe lean towards that.
