Newcastle United may complete multiple signings ‘in a day’ – Agbonlahor

Gabby Agbonlahor has claimed Newcastle United could sign multiple players in a day.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker claimed the club could wrap up new signings “within a day” after they completed the appointment of Dan Ashworth as their new sporting director.

Newcastle confirmed on Monday (30 May) that Ashworth, 51, will join the club from Brighton & Hove Albion subject to Premier League approval.

After spending over £90million on five new players in January, the Magpies have not begun their transfer business this summer.

“Players can take a day to come in,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“Aston Villa signed two players within a couple of days. It doesn’t take long, contracts will be sorted within a day. But maybe they don’t think there’s any rush.

“I’m sure Newcastle will be looking for the quality they needed in certain areas. With their financial backing, it’s going to be an exciting season.

“If I’m one of the hierarchy I want the best of the best, I don’t want players who are coming for a payday. I want players who are going to improve the side and help them climb the table.

“With the World Cup, it could be a strange season where a shock team finishes in the top six.

“With what they have created at St. James’ Park, it wouldn’t surprise me if they went unbeaten at home. The way they’ve turned that stadium into a fortress, teams are going to be scared to go there.

“It’s exciting times at that club.”
