Newcastle United owners PiF plotting to sell Bruno Guimaraes and sign multiple stars – sources

Newcastle United will consider selling Bruno Guimaraes this summer to fund their summer spending spree, sources have told Football Insider.

The Brazilian has a £100million release clause in his contract which, if triggered, would provide a huge boost to the Magpies’ summer plans.

Sources have told Football Insider (17 March) that Newcastle will be forced to sell one of their biggest players this summer, and Guimaraes is high on the list of those who could be sacrificed.

Eddie Howe’s side have major summer plans to bolster their squad and improve on their underwhelming campaign next season.

Newcastle United could sell Bruno to fund four-man signing spree

Football Insider revealed (1 March) that the club intend to sign a new centre-back, a central midfielder and a striker for next season.

Sources have also told Football Insider (13 March) that a new goalkeeper is also on their transfer target list ahead of the new campaign.

However, following years of heavy spending under the PiF-led ownership, Newcastle need to raise funds before signing any targets.

Guimaraes has been one of the club’s standout performers since he arrived from Lyon for a reported fee of £40million two years ago.

He has been on the radar of Premier League and European clubs, with Man City, Man United, Liverpool and Chelsea reportedly eyeing a summer move.

The 26-year-old has also previously been on the radar of La Liga giants Real Madrid and Barcelona after his influential outings on Tyneside.

They are next in action against West Ham United at St James’ Park in the Premier League on 30 March after the international break.
