Expert: ‘Revolution’ taking place ‘behind the scenes’ at Newcastle United amid Derek Wright reveal
The departure of long-serving head physio Derek Wright is another sign that the Newcastle United “revolution” is in full swing.
That is the view of medical expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in injury and data analysis.
Speaking to club media last Wednesday (13 July), Wright confirmed that he was leaving the Magpies after 38 years.
The 63-year-old served under 32 different managers during his time at Darsley Park.
As relayed by Training Ground Guru back in February, Newcastle appointed former Liverpool head physio on an interim basis until the end of 2021-22.
Dinnery forecasts that Galley will now step into the role vacated by Wright as the PIF regime continues to make major changes behind the scenes.
“These decisions are never taken lightly and don’t happen overnight,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.
“The announcement may have been recently but Dave Gally came in as head physiotherapist to cover for James Haycock who left for Crystal Palace.
“Initially, he came in on an interim deal with the promise to revisit that at the end of the season. That gives you an understanding of how the club operates behind the scenes.
“In Dave, you already have that experience of working elsewhere but he also isn’t coming in cold into a completely new environment. Therefore, the transition away from Derek Wright won’t hit them too hard.

“Derek brings huge experience and is a friendly face around the club environment. That can’t be replaced.
“But we’re entering a new era. This is the Newcastle revolution. The backroom staff is growing and we’re moving in a different direction.”
