Newcastle United tipped to submit £75m Kalvin Phillips bid after source’s reveal

Newcastle United will have to pay £75million to sign Kalvin Phillips from Leeds United this summer.

That’s according to former West Ham hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about how much the midfielder will set the Magpies back.

On Monday (16 May) this site revealed Aston Villa and Newcastle are leading the race to sign Phillips, 26, this summer.

A recruitment source has told this site both clubs have made the midfielder a top target and are laying the groundwork for potential deals.

McAvennie insists Newcastle will have to break their record fee to sign the Leeds star.

“Phillips will be on the move, I’m pretty sure of that,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“I think I read something about Man City wanting him so that would be a battle.

“He will also cost a fair amount of money too. I remember how much people were going on about after the Euros.

“Last summer people were on about £100million. Now you have to consider he has barely played this season.

“So maybe you are looking at something like £75million. Newcastle have the money but do they want to pay that much for a midfielder?

“I think they need to bring some other players in first but let’s face it, they have the money. they could make it happen.”
