Mills delivers verdict on Newcastle swoop for Burn after new bid update

Dan Burn possesses the leadership qualities the Newcastle United desperately lacks, according to Danny Mills.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Leeds United and England defender admitted Burn may not fit into Newcastle’s vision beyond the end of the season.

A Newcastle source told Football Insider yesterday (27 January) they are preparing another bid for the Brighton & Hove Albion defender after having an £8million offer rejected.

This site broke the news on Wednesday morning (26 January) that the Magpies had turned the attention to the 6ft 7in centre-back.

Burn is a boyhood Newcastle fan and told NUFC360 back in March 2017 the Sir Bobby Robson-era was a “big part” of his childhood.

Asked for his verdict on a move for the 29-year-old, Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “The defence need some organisation and leadership and he would be that sort of character.

“But again, it’s a bit of short-termism, I would say. Do I see him taking them up to mid-table and then challenging for the European places next season and the season after? Probably not.

“I guess Newcastle aren’t worried about that, it’s all about them surviving this season and getting in as many players as possible this minute to try and bolster their squad and give them as many options as possible.”

Burn has played 83 times in the Premier League in for Brighton and has scored two goals.

The Blyth-born ace, 29, has 18 months left to run on his contract with the Seagulls.
