Newcastle United told to sign Nathan Collins alternative after source’s reveal – pundit

Newcastle United should turn their attention away from Burnley defender Nathan Collins, according to Paul Robinson.

The former Clarets and England goalkeeper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the Magpies should sign a better calibre of centre-back this summer.

Newcastle are in the market for a centre-back in the upcoming window.

A recruitment source told Football Insider that Eddie Howe’s side are plotting a move for Nathan Collins, 21, following Burnley’s relegation.

Leeds United are also in the race for the defender’s signature.

Collins has three years remaining on his contract at Turf Moor.

When asked by Football Insider if the centre-back would be a welcome addition at St. James’ Park, Robinson said: “There will be a lot of clubs looking at Burnley hoping to pick up a bargain.

“That is likely the case with Collins.

“Do Newcastle need to be shopping in the Championship though? Look at the money and the players they have now.

“They should be shopping for players in a different bracket to Collins. I think they should be looking at a different level of player.

“Collins is a good player but he does not go into that Newcastle team and make a difference.

“Money is no object for them so they should be shopping at the top table.”

Collins made 22 appearances in the 2021-22 campaign.

He joined Burnley from Stoke City in July 2021.
