Newcastle United well placed to seal ‘next level’ signing after £35m Renan Lodi update – expert
Alan Hutton has insisted Atletico Madrid left-back Renan Lodi would be a “great” signing for Newcastle United this summer.
The former Scotland international, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the 24-year-old would fit right into Eddie Howe’s system at St James’ Park.
As reported by the i (25 May), Newcastle are plotting a move for the Brazilian full-back, with Atletico open to selling for the right price.

The Chronicle (31 May) claim the Spanish heavyweights are demanding as much as £35million for the defender.
Hutton suggested the Brazilian’s arrival would help Newcastle go to the next level.
Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “He’s a great player. We all know, playing at Atletico Madrid under Simeone, you have to be defensively sound or you won’t play.
“That being said, he can still go forward and get involved in the attack and I think that’s how Newcastle want to play.
“I think these are the type of guys that Newcastle will look to bring in, with that experience of winning trophies and Champions League experience. It would really move them on to the next level.
“He’s kind of a grounded player. You’re not just going: ‘Let’s just go and sign the best left-back in the world and hopefully it works.’
“They’re going for a solid, sound football player that they know they can make this team better. I think he would suit the Newcastle team.”
Lodi has made 118 appearances for Atletico and 15 for Brazil to date.

He already has experience of playing with two of Newcastle’s biggest stars.
Lodi featured 68 times alongside Kieran Trippier at Atletico and played 39 games with Bruno Guimaraes for Atletico Paranaense.
