Next Tottenham manager: Talks underway as new Nagelsmann details emerge – sources

Tottenham will hold talks with a number of manager targets between now and the end of the season following Antonio Conte’s exit, sources have told Football Insider.

Spurs confirmed the sacking of Conte on Sunday (26 March) – with his ex-assistant Christian Stellini and first-team coach Ryan Mason taking charge until the end of the 2022-23 campaign.

Stellini seeing out the remainder of the season will allow any new manager to have a full pre-season and a full transfer window before taking charge of the Lilywhites.

Tottenham chiefs have placed faith in Stellini, believing he is the man to steady the ship and achieve the goal of securing a top-four finish.

Football Insider revealed on Monday (27 March) that first-choice manager target Julian Nagelsmann may only take charge of the club if they qualify for the Champions League this season.

It is believed that taking part in Europe’s elite club competition will be important to a number of Daniel Levy’s top targets for the role – and could be key to the progression of negotiations.

Discussions will now get underway with candidates for the position as Tottenham work behind the scenes on their latest managerial search.

This site revealed on Sunday (26 March) that Spurs are likely to appoint an out-of-work manager to replace Conte.

Mauricio Pochettino is currently unemployed following his Paris Saint-Germain sacking last year (2022) – while reported target Roberto De Zerbi is an outsider with Tottenham unwilling to pay a lofty compensation fee to Brighton.

Liverpool

Tottenham remain in fourth place but have played more games than top-four rivals Newcastle and Liverpool as the Premier League run-in approaches.

Conte managed to qualify for the Champions League in his first season at the club – winning out against competition from rivals Arsenal to seal fourth place late in the 2021-22 campaign.
