'Rotten', 'Horror show' – Rangers fans destroy mainstay after friendly win v Corinthians
Rangers fans have taken to social media to destroy James Tavernier for his performance in the 4-2 friendly win against Corinthians in the Florida Cup – even though he bagged a goal.
The right-back, who has been a mainstay of the Light Blues side since joining the club in 2015, was blamed by some fans for the second goal scored by the Brazilian side, which put them 2-0 ahead and was scored by former Celtic striker Colin-Kazim Richardson.
One supporter was particularly scathing, claiming that the Englishman has “no clue” about defensive positioning.
The 26-year-old did earn some favour with the fans by the end of the match though, as he scored the Gers’ fourth goal of the game in the second-half.
Here are some of the best reactions from Twitter to Tavernier’s performance:
As for the game itself, Rodriguinho opened the scoring for the Brazilian side before the aforementioned Kazim-Richards goal made it 2-0 at half-time.
Alfredo Morelos brought the Light Blues back into the match with a goal in the 63rd minute. Andy Halliday then completed the comeback in the 71st minute.
Incredibly, the Gers then went 3-2 ahead when Jamie Murphy set up Morelos for his second goal of the game in the 77th minute.
The lead was extended in the 82nd minute with Dalcio set up Tavernier to make it 4-2.
The Gers now return to Scotland to begin the second-half of the season, starting with a Scottish Cup tie against non-league Fraserburgh next Sunday.
