‘No doubt about that’ – Former Rangers captain reveals why Gerrard will be a success at Ibrox

Former Rangers captain Steven Davis thinks Steven Gerrard’s playing career as Liverpool and England captain means he will be “well prepared” for the demands he will need to meet at Ibrox if he is to be a success.

Gerrard takes the reins at Ibrox on Friday as he takes his first job in management and Davis is confident he won’t be fazed by the pressure as the Light Blues try to end Celtic’s dominance of Scottish football.

The Southampton star also believes that Gerrard will be instantly respected by everyone at Ibrox when he arrives in Glasgow next week.

“He is a legend of the game and I’m sure he will get massive respect from everyone when he walks into the Rangers dressing room as manager. There is no doubt about that,” Davis said, as quoted by the Daily Record.

“It is a big job for him but he is used to playing under pressure throughout his career. He was the main man at Liverpool for so long and also captain of England. He will be well prepared in terms of what is required and the demands he will face.”

Football Insider verdict:

Gerrard has been around the game long enough to know the pressure and demands that come with a club the size of Rangers. The 37-year-old has been there and done it before so will have a firm idea of exactly what he has let himself in for. After spending so long at Liverpool – as well as captain of England – Gerrard is well used to having the pressure on his shoulders to lift a league title. While being a great player is no guarantee of making a good manager, Gerrard’s personality also marks him out as someone who should make a good boss. It’s not a surprise that all of his peers all have the same thing to say about him and if he goes on to be half as successful in the dugout a he was in the pitch then he will do well at Ibrox. Winning the Gers’ first Scottish Premiership since 2011 would be a fantastic place to start.
