Harry Kane delivers verdict on Tottenham’s lack of transfer activity
By Aramide Oladipo
Tottenham striker Harry Kane is convinced that the team can still challenge for the Premier League title next season despite the lack of arrivals this summer.
The North London club are the Premier League side not to sign a single player in the summer transfer window.
Spurs have also seen last season regular Kyle Walker move to Premier League rivals Manchester City.
Tottenham were very active last summer as they secured the signatures of Moussa Sissoko, Vincent Janssen, Victor Wanyama and Georges-Kevin N’Koudou.
Wanyama was the only summer recruit who succeeded at White Hart Lane last season as Sissoko and Janssen endured a tough debut campaign whereas N’Koudou spent most of his time watching on from the sidelines.
Speaking to ESPN, Kane is confident that Spurs still have time to bring in some faces ahead of the new season but he also feels that the squad is already strong enough to mount another serious challenge on the title.
“Yeah definitely we think the squad’s good enough, you can see not many people have changed since last year,” he said.
“We took it right to the end, but look the manager will make his decisions and there’s still a long long time left in the transfer window so there’s no need to panic or rush anything.
“I think it’s clear you’d rather have no players than a player that ain’t really right for your team, so I’m sure if the gaffer wants to get the person he wants to get in he’ll take his time and make sure he gets who he wants.”
Kane proved himself to be one of the best players in the Premier League last season, collecting the Golden Boot award for a second consecutive time.
The England international managed to score a total of 35 goals in all competitions during the last campaign, helping Spurs secure Champions League football for the second time in a row.
