'Not enough' – Prutton casts promotion doubts as he blasts Leeds' lack of progress

Former Leeds United star David Prutton has questioned whether the club have what it takes to secure a top six spot and a shot at promotion this season as he blasts the Whites’ lack of progress over the years.
Thomas Christiansen’s side currently sit 10th in the Championship table, three points off Sheffield United in sixth, the last of the play off positions, after a roller coaster campaign which has seen highs and lows for the Elland Road outfit.

Now Prutton is questioning whether these peaks and troughs of their performances will result in them missing out on a play off spot come the end of the campaign, and has slammed the club for failing to progress when their rivals have.
He told the Yorkshire Evening Post: “Huddersfield are in the Premier League, and Brighton and Swansea. I remember playing all three clubs in League One for goodness sake!
“A top-six finish was the aim when the season began and for me, that’s still the basis on which the season will be classed as a success.
“Anything less is normal service resumed and normal service in the Championship is not enough. At some point Leeds have to take the next step forward.
“Maybe this is the way it’s going to for the rest of the season – big ups, big downs and a league position which doesn’t quite cut it in the end.
“By no means have Leeds slipped out of contention and they’ve still got a massive opportunity in front of them.”
They are currently on a four game winless run in the league, extended to five if you include the FA Cup shock against Newport County, a streak which has seen them tumble out of the top six after going six games unbeaten, five of which came as victories.
Their form reflects the fall from grace suffered after a bright start to the season, with just one defeat in their opening nine games followed by seven losses in their next nine outings before their most recent unbeaten run.
In other Leeds United news, the club have welcomed a European duo to Elland Road ahead of a prospective transfer swoop.
