Nottingham Forest fans react on Twitter to Lascelles display for Newcastle

Nottingham Forest fans have thanked Jamaal Lascelles on Twitter after their team secured a 2-1 win against nine-man Newcastle on Friday night.

Lascelles, 23, made two errors in a remarkable Championship encounter at the City Ground on Friday night.

The Newcastle defender failed to clear the ball inside his own six-yard box to allow Nicklas Bendtner to equalise, before bundling the ball into his own net with five minutes remaining on the clock.

Wearing the armband for Newcastle after being appointed skipper by Rafa Benitez in the summer, Lascelles was left helpless at the back as the Toon struggled with the numerical disadvantage.

Lascelles signed for the Magpies in August 2014, before moving back on loan to the City Ground for a further season in a double deal with the Toon’s current number one Karl Darlow.

Forest fans reacted on Twitter to Lascelles’ display, with many thanking their former star for his mistake in the lead up to the equaliser.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

The 6ft 2in centre-back has starred at the heart of the Magpies defence this season, playing a pivotal part in keeping 10 clean sheets in 20 league and cup encounters as his side sit on top of the Championship.

Wearing the number six shirt, Lascelles has even attracted the reported interest of Premier League leaders Chelsea as he continues his fine form at the back.

In other Nottingham Forest news, Henri Lansbury was named in the Team of the Week after his hat-trick display.
