Nottingham Forest points deduction: Stefan Borson shares key update

The £47million sale of Brennan Johnson will count in 2023-24 PSR calculations which could save Nottingham Forest from a points deduction.

That is the view of finance expert Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider that the benefit of Forest losing their PSR argument last season means that Johnson’s fee will count towards 2023-24.

Forest were deducted four points last season after breaching Profit and Sustainability Rules by £34.5million.

The club argued that the £47million sale of Brennan Johnson to Tottenham should be taken into consideration in their PSR calculations.

However, Johnson’s sale will now be attributed to Forest’s 2023-24 accounts with the club once again close to their allowable losses limit.

Borson explained that Forest could now benefit from losing their argument last year as it could save them from another deduction.

Nottingham Forest could dodge PSR punishment with £47m deal

We know that Nottingham Forest have had quite a big profit from the sale of Brennan Johnson,” Borson told Football Insider.

One of the benefits of losing their argument in 2022-23 is that the benefit of Brennan Johnson can now be attributed to the current season so they have the full benefit of his sale.

The question now is whether that is enough as they also have to deal with some operating losses aside from player trading.

So the player trading has to compensate for not only the historic losses but also the losses in the current season.

They needed to make quite a lot of money on player trading this season but they’ve made around £50million already.

I think they probably need a bit more so we will see whether they will try and sell somebody before the end of June.
