Nottingham Forest tipped to scrap Eddie Nketiah deal & sign 23-yr-old – Wyness

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed Nottingham Forest will pursue a move for Feyenoord star Santiago Gimenez over Arsenal’s Eddie Nketiah.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed the 23-year-old is the “right striker” for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side and a worthy replacement for Chris Wood.

Football Insider revealed on Tuesday (20 August) that Nottingham Forest have made a detailed proposal to Nketiah to try and convince him to sign.

It has also been widely reported that Forest have seen bids rejected for Gimenez, who scored 26 goals for Feyenoord last term and has already hit four in the 2024-25 campaign.

Wood is the club’s current first-choice striker and opened the scoring in Saturday’s (17 August) 1-1 draw at home against Bournemouth.

However, Wyness warned the New Zealand international is not the “20-25 Premier League goal striker” Forest need to stay up.

He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “I think they’re bargaining the best they can at the moment.

“Gimenez, I believe, will be the one they go for. He had a good season at Feyenoord.

“He’s the right striker for them.

“There’s no doubt that they need to get some more goals in this team.

“Chris Wood is always going to be a good player and a great backup, but I don’t think he’s quite the 20-25 Premier League goal striker they need to stay up.

“Nketiah and Gimenez are both good opportunities for Forest.”
