Taking the same route as Manquillo from Atletico Madrid to the Toon, Gamez featured just seven times for Benitez’s side last season.
The Daily Star claim the 32-year-old is earning a huge £35,000 a week at Newcastle, and he must be axed to save money on the wage bill as soon as possible.
With Manquillo signing, Gamez is unlikely to get a look in with the club and releasing the Spaniard could be an option if no clubs are interested.
