‘Outstanding’ – Exclusive: Robinson wowed by Liverpool player with ‘Extra string to his bow’
Paul Robinson revealed his admiration for Liverpool midfielder Fabinho after the 26-year-old impressed in the 3-1 win over Manchester City on Sunday.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Laura O’Leary, the ex-Tottenham and England No.1 revealed that he thought Fabinho proved he wasn’t just a one dimensional player by getting a rare goal against Pep Guardiola’s side.
The Brazilian midfielder scored his first goal of the season to help the Reds get one over their Premier League title rivals by firing the ball home from 25-yards-out to open the scoring.
Robinson revealed that everyone knows how good Fabinho is defensively but claimed the midfielder showing off his ability to pop up with a goal just proved he had an extra string to his bow.
When asked which players stood out for him during Liverpool’s win over Man City, Robinson told Football Insider: “I think all of Liverpool players stood out but I thought Fabinho was outstanding.
“I’ve admired him all season and I think he proved his worth at the weekend, Klopp keeps changing those three in midfield, but Fabinho seems to be the one who stays in.
“I think he is the key, the defensive linchpin of those three midfielders, and he’s the first name on his teamsheet.
“Everyone knows his defensive capabilities and with Fernandinho he is probably the best defensive midfielder in the Premier League, but he just showed that he has an extra string to his bow by popping up with a goal.
“He’s not just a one-dimensional player, he has so many attributes to his game.”
Fabinho has played 17 times across all competitions for the Reds this season and has notably played every minute of their Champions League campaign so far.
The midfield enforcer arrived at Anfield from French club Monaco in 2018 and is contracted to stay with Jurgen Klopp’s side until 2023.
