Darren Bent revealed he is a big fan of Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson and suggested the 29-year-old often found his contributions being disrespected.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Laura O’Leary, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa attacker shared that when things weren’t going right for Liverpool, Henderson gets the blame.
The Reds central midfielder has regularly featured for Jurgen Klopp’s side this season and made his 15th appearance of the campaign by starting in the 3-1 win over Manchester City on Sunday.
Bent revealed that he thought Henderson was underrated and unappreciated while also pointing out that the 29-year-old always gives 100% effort so deserves to be praised.
When asked if Henderson doesn’t get enough credit, Bent told Football Insider: “100%, every time things aren’t going well, they blame him.
“Yet he scores important goals, he gives 100% for them and a lot of fans say they just want effort, hunger and desire, and this guy gives that to you all the time.
“But yet he still doesn’t get the respect he deserves, so for me, underrated, I’m a big fan of Jordan and he knows that.
“He was one of the key components in them winning the Champions League last season and against Spurs when they were losing, he scored the goal to get back in the game.
“So for me? I think he is totally underrated and unappreciated.”
Henderson has been at Anfield since joining Liverpool from Sunderland in 2011 and has made 339 appearances for the club so far.
The England international is contracted to stay with Klopp’s team until 2023 after signing a contract extension in September 2018.
